Lions Club launches youth award scheme

Surrey Border Lions Club is pleased to invite applications from young men or women, who live or have an association with Bagshot, Lightwater or Windlesham, for an award from the John Denney Memorial fund. John Denney was a founder member of Surrey Border Lions Club and held senior positions in Lions Clubs International. The members of Surrey Border Lions Club and John’s family thought it appropriate to remember John, an enthusiastic promoter of youth development, through an award to young people.

The award takes the form of a grant of up to £500 to assist with the achievement of an ambition. That ambition might be linked to their academic development, their career, a sport or hobby, a business start-up, or performance of a service to the global community. The award will be judged by The Surrey Border Lions Club and priority will be given to applicants who might otherwise be inhibited from their ambition through the lack of funds. The award is open to all persons under the age of 30 years.

Applicants will be expected to support their application with a comprehensive explanation of their project, the objectives and benefits that the project will achieve.

Since 1980 Surrey Border Lions have organised events in order raise money for good causes in our three Villages of Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham. Surrey Border Lions acts locally on “its own patch” just like the hundreds of other clubs in Britain and overseas.
